Glaciers galore

After Valdez I headed west towards Anchorage.  From there I turned south to Seward and exit Glacier.  Between Valdez and Anchorage is the Matanuska Glacier, so I stopped in on the way by and stayed for the weekend.  This weekend I'm at Watson Lake, at a small campground run by the Kenai Wildlife Refuge.  Its near the middle of the Kenai Peninsula and a long way from any city.  The nearest town is Sterling about 10 miles west and its not much more than a wide spot in the road.  I have a much better signal here than I had in Seward, go figure.

Exit Glacier.  This is as close as I could get.  They don't let you walk up to it anymore.

The toe of Exit Glacier.  Pretty mild compared to Columbia Glacier.

The outflow from the glacier meeting a stream of snowmelt from the right.  The glacier stream is pretty small by comparison. 

The scrape marks on the rock are from the glacier ice when it covered this spot just a few years ago.

Exit Glacier from the road.  The part where I took the previous pictures is not visible from here, it is behind those trees.
